How To Make Inspirational Journal Cards for Your Journals or Scrapbooks With This Beautiful Embellishment Technique

My motto for 2021 is to "Be A Kind Human"!  Do my part to bring some kindness into someones life each day.  Whether it is through my videos, on social media in my comments, or in one on one relationships with my friends and family members.

To get the ball rolling I made these beautiful journal cards with the sentiment "Be Kind" on the front.

Here is the list of supplies that you will need to make this project.  You will also find them in my Etsy shop at Markets of Sunshine. click here <<<<

Supplies List

  • 8.5 x 11 inch sheet of white or cream card stock
  • one book page
  • small piece of art paper cut to fit on the front of your card leaving a small border
  • glue stick
  • ink pad and stamps
  • white gesso
  • a variety of paint colors 4 different colors that look good together (one should be a metallic)
  • stencil pattern of your choice

Now here is a detailed step by step process.  You can also watch my video to see exactly how it's done in a live presentation.

Step 1:  cut your card stock in half at 5.5 inches then fold in half.  You'll have two card blanks.

Step 2:  take your piece of art paper and add your paint colors one at a time as shown in the video using a bouncing technique with the tip of your paint brush.

Step 3:  Wait for the paint to dry before moving on to the next step.  Or, use a heat gun to speed up the drying process.

Step 4:  Take your decorative stamps and fill in the page until it looks good to you.  More is good here.

Step 5:  Lay your stencil on the art paper and apply the gesso to fill in the design you've chosen. Let dry.

Step 6:  Use your metallic paint and add highlights to the raised texture of the gesso.  Let dry.

Step 7:  Tear a piece of the book page to fit in the center of your artwork as shown in the picture.  Then ink the edges with a distress ink from Ranger.  I like to use Brushed Corduroy.

Step 8:  Stamp the words Be Kind onto your white piece of card stock that is smaller than your book page piece.. Then ink the edges as well.

Step 9:  Glue the center of the artwork paper and attach it to the card front.  Glue the book page in the center and center it on top of the artwork paper.  Glue the sentiment in the center and add it on top of the book page.

Step 10:  Sew all the edges of the papers using your sewing machine for a finished look.  Zigzag looks great on the artwork paper.  A straight stitch works fine for the book page and sentiment piece.

Enjoy! using it for a daily motto in 2021 and join this "Be A Kind Human" movement!

Sending You Sunshine!

Marsha

What Is The Best Quilting Machine For A Beginner?

This is my question to the sewing experts out there in the quilting community.  I am wanting to purchase a free-motion quilting machine that is around $200.00 and is easy to use.  I was looking at the Brother CS7000i quilt and sewing machine that is around $199.00.  I've read the reviews on it and many are saying there are issues with the bobbin and the thread underneath bunches up on them.

Others are saying read the manual carefully several times so that you know exactly how to do the bobbin.  It seems that the bobbin is the biggest issue with this machine.

What quilting machine do you have?

What issues do you have with your brand machine?

Do you have a Brother quilting machine?  If so, which one?

Head on over to my YouTube channel and see the handmade quilts that I have made all with the slow stitch hand method.

How To Make Envelope For Cards Without Spending Any Money On Supplies

Sustainable crafting might be a new concept to most out there in the handmade world.  But, there is a way for any DIY project to be made without spending any money on supplies.  How you ask?  I'm happy to share this easy way to make some beautiful gifts just by using up junk mail and packaging you already have in your home.

You can see some of my current work in my Etsy shop, Markets of Sunshine click here <<<

Before I get to the "how to" part of this post.  Let me give you a little bit of information about my background and how I came to be a creative soul.  Well it all started back in grade school in art class.  If you're from the baby boomer generation like I am then you probably remember those times with fond memories.  I know I sure do.

Well year after year I'd make something fun and pretty and bring it home to my Mom.  She loved each and every item that I made no matter how simple it might have been to make.  She still has them to this day displayed all around her bedroom.

Fast forward to becoming a Mom myself and having my daughter and wanting to share with her my love of making things with my own two hands was a dream come true.  What I could not teach her myself and for the sake of her having social interaction with other children her own age.  As an only child and being home schooled she needed that association very much.

A group of my friends were also teaching their children at home so we formed a group and would meet once a week so the children could interact with different age groups outside of their own home.  We found places that taught young children age 6 and up to hand sew, paint, draw and other fun crafts.

It was in that group of 8 families that I really was able to express my love for teaching.  I taught sign language and crafts class to ages 5 to 13 for 7 years.  I also was hired to teach different adult classes about crafts and how to use website applications over a video conference platform.

I now teach what I've learned on my YouTube channel through video tutorials.  I'll explain how you can make beautiful gifts with supplies you already have on hand in the video below.  Click the button to watch it now.

Vintage Fabric Yardage To Use In Sewing and Crafting Projects - Etsy Shop Pioneer Fundraiser

My husband and I are the curator's of the Etsy shop Pioneer Fundraiser.  We opened this shop in 2010 to resale vintage treasures aka old stuff that we found in thrift stores and garage sales here in Central Florida.

Our love for all things retro has turned into a nice little supplemental income stream that has been a blessing in disguise.  Since we live on one income coming in from a self-employed business you can't depend on a set amount of weekly income.  It fluctuates from job to job.

Click Here To Visit Our Etsy Shop Today! <<<

The same is true with our Etsy shop income.  It all depends on who finds our shop and buys the item they were looking for as a gift or as a replacement to a set.  So when you put the two income streams together you get what turns out in the end to be a reliable payday.

So without further ado let's get right into looking at the latest vintage fabric that is available for you in our Etsy shop.  Watch the short video below from start to finish and you'll see the four beautiful green and blue materials that you can choose from for your project.

We are going to have a HUGE giveaway when we reach 1000 Subscriber's on our YouTube channel.

The prize package will be worth over $200 and have handmade, vintage and organic goodies from a variety of companies that have graciously donated to the prize package.  So join the community of like minded sustainable crafters by Subscribing to Markets of Sunshine on YouTube today! <<<<

Reach out to your local senior care groups and ask what they need and sign-up to help make a difference in an elderly persons life today!  They'll be glad for the help.

The Prettiest Ways To Decorate Your Junk Journal On A Budget

We are all needing to save money these days more than ever before.  But how can you still give gifts for those special occasions without breaking the budget?  Make a junk journal with things you have around the house.  Or, with things you can buy at the dollar store.  Ask your friends for old magazines with pretty pictures on topics you want to make a junk journal around.

So just what is a junk journal you may be asking?  Well, here is the quick answer.  It's a journal you make yourself with whatever papers and fabrics you want in the colors and patterns you want and in the size you want.

You can glue the pages together to make a section.  Also known as a signature if you want to sound smart.

You can sew the pages together like I do if you don't want the mess of the glue and you don't want to wait for the drying process.  I'm a little impatient with my projects.  I want to get them made and gifted or start using them right away.

So, want to learn some ways to make that first or 100th junk journal a beaut?  Watch my YouTube video and I'll show you how I make the prettiest junk journals on a budget with items you already have on hand.

While you're on my channel I'd love for you to Subscribe and join my little growing community.

Junk Journal Inserts Using Original Artwork

Are you an artist?  Or, maybe someone in your family is like my daughter, Kayla.  She has made so many beautiful pieces for me to use in my projects.  I wanted to share them with you so you can add them to your projects too.

Come on over to my YouTube channel, Markets of Sunshine and watch the flip through.

If there are some you want just leave me a comment and I'll add them to my Etsy shop, Markets of Sunshine as a digital download.  You may use it in your personal projects and sell in small batches.
You may not sell the artwork by itself.

I've used on of her drawings as a junk journal insert in a envelope pocket in my current Evergreen junk journal.  There are drawings of nature from flowers to sharks. There's even one of Alice In Wonderland with a modern twist that I think you'll go crazy over.

I hope to see you there soon.
