Photo Album Guest Book Handmade By Markets of Sunshine

What is mixed media art?  It's the art of transforming a book into a work of art that is functional and useful as well as pretty to look at.

Altered Book Art

I have to say that the type of mixed media art that makes me feel the happiest is the altered book art.  I am the type of person that would rather make it myself instead of buying it off the shelf and putting money into the big box store's pockets.

So, I go to used book stores that are privately owned and buy from them.  I also go to thrift stores and garage sales looking for pretty books that I can alter.

Here are just a few steps that are involved in mixed media art for altered books.

You start with any hardcover book that looks pretty on the outside cover.  I used one about cups for my latest creation.

You'll find it in my Etsy shop, Markets of Sunshine.

The next step is collect pretty paper that you find at the craft store for scrapbooking.

As you can see I choose a variety of brown and blue hues to match the cover of the book.

The final step is to collect your photos and start adding them to the pages with a glue stick or double stick tape.  

I add pockets for any mementos you've collected from trips or fun days out that you want to remember as you flip through the pages in the future.
