The Prettiest Ways To Decorate Your Junk Journal On A Budget

We are all needing to save money these days more than ever before.  But how can you still give gifts for those special occasions without breaking the budget?  Make a junk journal with things you have around the house.  Or, with things you can buy at the dollar store.  Ask your friends for old magazines with pretty pictures on topics you want to make a junk journal around.

So just what is a junk journal you may be asking?  Well, here is the quick answer.  It's a journal you make yourself with whatever papers and fabrics you want in the colors and patterns you want and in the size you want.

You can glue the pages together to make a section.  Also known as a signature if you want to sound smart.

You can sew the pages together like I do if you don't want the mess of the glue and you don't want to wait for the drying process.  I'm a little impatient with my projects.  I want to get them made and gifted or start using them right away.

So, want to learn some ways to make that first or 100th junk journal a beaut?  Watch my YouTube video and I'll show you how I make the prettiest junk journals on a budget with items you already have on hand.

While you're on my channel I'd love for you to Subscribe and join my little growing community.

Junk Journal Inserts Using Original Artwork

Are you an artist?  Or, maybe someone in your family is like my daughter, Kayla.  She has made so many beautiful pieces for me to use in my projects.  I wanted to share them with you so you can add them to your projects too.

Come on over to my YouTube channel, Markets of Sunshine and watch the flip through.

If there are some you want just leave me a comment and I'll add them to my Etsy shop, Markets of Sunshine as a digital download.  You may use it in your personal projects and sell in small batches.
You may not sell the artwork by itself.

I've used on of her drawings as a junk journal insert in a envelope pocket in my current Evergreen junk journal.  There are drawings of nature from flowers to sharks. There's even one of Alice In Wonderland with a modern twist that I think you'll go crazy over.

I hope to see you there soon.

Junk Journal Embellishments Pocket Insert Tutorial

How are you doing staying at home and keeping safe?  I hope you have organized your entire house by now.  I am working on my craft supplies and sewing supplies in my home office.
I have gotten so much done in 2 months.

The last to be organized and put away are all my fabric pieces and scraps.  I store them in those big Thirty-One Gift tote bags.  They hold around 100 different fabric types.  I lay them vertical so I can see the ends and know what is there at a glance.

In the meantime, I am also using up lots of the paper and fabric scraps in my stash and posting a DIY video on my YouTube channel.

I'm trying to reach 1000 subscribers this year, 2020.

I'm at 60 right now.  When I reach 100 subscribers I will do a giveaway for a $10 credit in my Etsy shop, Markets of Sunshine
When I reach 1000 subscribers I will giveaway one of my new Subscription Boxes:

Coronavirus Stress Buster - Handmade Embellishments For All Types Of Journals

How to combat the stress from dealing with coronavirus - Writing!
Whether you're making an art journal, bullet journal or junk journal you need to have pretty handmade embellishments to give it your own personal style.

Pro tips:

1. Keeping a daily gratitude and hope journal is a great way to get rid of the stressful feelings that may be bottled up inside of you right now.

2. Deep breathing is another way to let the stress out.  Do at least 15 slow deep breaths every morning and at bedtime to relieve your body of the tightness in your chest.

Have you heard of planner swag?  I hadn't either until I started watching more and more YouTube videos in the journal and crafting world.  It basically means a pretty flower made of any number of materials in any size or shape to add to the front of the cover that will showcase your style.

I've been making fabric flowers for years as lapel pins or brooches.  They are full of lush layers of colorful and monochromatic combinations of cotton blend fabrics.  I always add a vintage button to the center for the finishing touch.  They measure 2 to 4 inches wide and about 1 inch thick.

I include one in every DIY embellishment kit in my Etsy shop, Markets of Sunshine.  They are on sale in my clearance section for March at 50% off the regular price.  I will be removing them at the end of the month from my main product line.  So, if you want to grab one of these deals head on over now and pick up the one you like.

Pro tips:

3. Gardening is a great way to reduce stress levels. Get outside and start planting those heirloom seeds. Or pick up plants at your local nursery.  There are a lot of great gardening videos on YouTube.

Plant a variety of vegetables and fruit plants in your garden.  I'm doing raised bed container gardening this year.  We came up with a fun way to bring something whimsical to our backyard wildlife habitat.  I'll post the final pictures once it is complete.  You're gonna love it!

Strawberry plant.  Great for you and the friends of nature that visit your backyard.

If you want a ready made journal so that you can get to writing now and relief that stress level in a hurry.  Head on over to my Etsy shop, Markets of Sunshine and pick up one of my beautiful and colorful exclusive handmade journals today.

Click Here to see the entire selection.  We know you're gonna love using it and writing your daily hopes and grateful thoughts in while dealing with this situation.

4. Make a Video - Start recording a daily video of how you feel about this current pandemic situation.  Then once this is all over with you can watch them and learn what you did that helped and what you did that needs improvement.  This way when it happens again and it will, you'll be better equipped to deal with the situation from a place of reference.

How does it make you feel?
What are you doing to combat those feelings?
How are you staying in touch with family and friends?

Altered Book For Unique Junk Journal Keepsake Gift Idea

Make a junk journal using a book that is altered makes a great gift idea for keeping a daily gratitude journal.

Watch this video of one of my past altered books that I sold in my Etsy shop, Markets Of Sunshine.

Do you have a book that has a beautiful cover that is just sitting on a shelf not being used?

Well turn it into a junk journal with a few simple steps.  It's a great project to do while sitting on the couch with one of your favorite shows running in the background.

To get started pick out a good size book with lots of pages.  Then start removing half the pages.

You want to be able to embellish each page which will add bulk back to the book.

I usually tear out every other page.  In some cases you'll need to take out 3 or 4 pages at a time if it is a really thick book.

Then get out all of your craft supplies and start putting together a beautiful foundation of layers on each page.  Watch the video to get inspiration.

This will be a new product line coming to my shop for 2020.  So be sure to Favorite my shop so you can grab one of these works of art for yourself.

Sign-up for my mailing list and receive 30% off your order.

All orders of $35 or more ship free in the USA.

Thanks so much for stopping by and watching my video.

If you'd like to subscribe to my YouTube channel just hit the subscribe button and little bell so you'll get notified when I add a new video.
