Benefits of Volunteering!
I love to help others and have been volunteering my time to bring something that I feel is really worthwhile to others and have been doing so since I was a baby. You might wonder how could that be possible. Well, my Mother taught me that giving of ourselves to help others benefits us in the long run. For over 50 years she too has been volunteering in the community bringing 'good news' about God's kingdom to other's.
She spends over 70 hours a month in our community bringing people information from the Bible that actually helps them cope with day to day life. It has helped her health improve in so many ways. Her skin is taking in vitamin-D, she looks great and the exercise is helping her heart and immune system.
Why volunteer? This article sheds some light on the benefits of volunteering and how it helps others (Helping Hands Are Everywhere) written July 22, 2001. Because, of my love for people and because I know that what I am doing will change their life for the better I have expanded my ministry volunteering into my business.
I am now sharing my handmade gifts with those in nursing homes as well as those in the community that need uplifting. If you would like to support my efforts, please make a donation on my website.....visit here!
SPOTLIGHT CORNER
Announcing Markets of Sunshine appearing soon on a Nashville, TN TV station near you! Stay tuned for show time! Our popular Gift of the Month Club will debuted on a fun segment you won't want to miss the excitement! We'll, have prizes and giveaways for all who comment and support our blog, starting with this post and running for six months!
RECIPE CORNER
Marsha's Fish and Chips - Any white fish of your choice, frozen yucca, olive oil, lemon, garlic, yellow mustard, dill, salt.........Prepare the fish by soaking in lemon water for 10 minutes. Use real lemon! Heat the oven to 400 degrees. Rinse your fish pieces and place in a casserole dish with cover. Add 1 inch of water, lemon juice from 1 lemon, pinch of garlic, organic gluten free yellow mustard, sprinkle with dill, drizzle olive oil and spread the mustard around on each piece.
Bake for 25 minutes. I like my fish well cooked.
Yucca Chips - You'll want to start this early in the morning to have ready by dinner time. Get a large stock pot and add your whole bag of frozen yucca. Cover with water about 2 inches from the top of the pot. Add juice from 2 lemons, 1 teaspoon of garlic and bring to a boil.
Boil for 4 to 5 hours. After, 2 hours cut each thick piece in half so it speeds up the cooking time. Keep adding water during the cooking time so that the yucca stays covered in water.
Once you can put a fork in and it is soft they are done! Pre-heat your oven to 350 degrees.
Stage 2 - Place your yucca in a large casserole dish and remove the thick stems that are in the middle using a fork and butter knife. Drizzle with olive oil to cover them well and sprinkle with sea salt. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes or to the desired crunchiness. I like mine semi-crunchy, not too firm and not too soft. You will need to turn half way through to get both sides crunchy.
Dipping sauce - Make a mixture of garlic and olive oil to dip your fish and chips and enjoy!

Medical Fundraiser for Marsha Jaramillo With Give Forward
Give Forward is a fundraiser site that allows people with medical conditions raise money toward their health care costs. Read my story below and why I set up this fundraiser.
Lyme Disease is a silent killer of millions of people in the U.S. and around the world. Left untreated it is allowed to attack your immune system and debilitate it's host. I have had Lyme disease since December 2004. I was not diagnosed until December 2005. I am now at a turning point with my illness and have a doctor that can help me regain my health and a normal active life.
The cost is not covered by health insurance since it is natural medicine. And, most Lyme literate doctors do not take health insurance because the AMA interferes with their treatment methods. Why? I don't know. Don't they want people to get well? So, doctor's have had to avoid the watch dogs who prevent Lyme disease from being cured by their methods of treatment.
I can not work outside of my home, so I sell on Etsy and my own website, Markets of Sunshine. Unfortunately, I do not make enough from all of these sources to even pay for the office visit at my doctor, which is $250.00 a visit every 6 weeks. The medicine's are around $400 to $600 a visit. Therefore, I started a medical fundraiser in hopes that my friends, family and total strangers would be willing to give even $10 to help me reach a budget of $12,000.00 which would give me 2 years of treatments.
I need your help! Please, visit Give Forward today and make a donation toward my Lyme disease medical fundraiser. Your donation is greatly appreciated and is tax deductible up to $25.

This weeks tips are all about eating healthy.
1. Instead of eating out, pack your lunch. Preparing a health lunch should take less than 10 minutes.
2. Steam your vegetables instead of boiling them.
3. Replace chips or cookies with a more nutritious snack such as nuts. By doing this you will also add more fiber to your diet.
4. Replace sugary drinks with water. Your skin will thank you.
5. Beans and other legumes are a great way to get plant based protein into your diet.

Kayla what is one of the biggest challenges that you have faced as an Etsy owner and how have you overcome it?
3. Stretching in the morning and when you are on break can relieve stress but also help stiff limbs and gets the circulation going.
4. Snack on something between lunch and dinner giving your body small amounts of fuel can help when you have those energy drops and helps stop from over-eating.
Kayla what is one of the biggest challenges that you have faced as an Etsy owner and how have you overcome it?
Getting enough inventory in my shop has been my biggest challenge. The more items that you have in your shop, the better it will look and there will be more choices to appeal to the customer.
Kayla has shared 5 healthy tips to help you get through your day.
1. We all know breakfast is the most important meal of the day. But not everyone has time or gets a healthy one. So why not try a quick and healthy protein shake by Peaceful Planet giving you protein and energy all in one!
2. A full glass of water in the morning helps rehydrate your body after sleeping all night.
5. Ah end of the day at last. A hot cup of tea after dinner can help digest your meal and help settle you down for the night.
What is your favorite health tip that helps you get through your day? We would love to hear from you!! Please share it with us in the comments section below.

Parents can do much to help their children learn how to make decisions that honor God. A fine example is one of the best teachers. When appropriate, parents can explain to their children which steps they themselves took to make a certain decision. They may also want to allow their children to make some decisions for themselves and then commend them when the decision works out well. What, though, if a child makes a poor decision? A parent’s first inclination may be to shield the child from the consequences, but doing so may not always be in the child’s best interests. For example, the parent may allow the child to obtain a driver’s license. Suppose the child were to break a traffic law and receive a fine. The parent could pay the fine. However, if the child is required to work to pay off the fine, he is more likely to learn to be responsible for his actions.

I opened my Etsy shop in 2012 and it is my goal is to design and create unique children's accessories and clothing while remaining
as earth friendly as possible. I want to create a line of clothing that will be fashionable yet help to sustain earth's natural resources for our current generation and our children's generation. All of the
Outfits in my shop has been upcycled from articles of clothing that
were no longer wanted. The result is a unique one-of-a-kind outfit
created just for your wee princess. The knitted accessories in my
shop are all made using cotton yarns.

Below is an example of some of my favorite healthy meals that I have found on Pinterest. I have included the link for the recipes that are not mine. Do you have a favorite healthy recipe? We would love for you to share it with us in the comments section below.
Breakfast
1 cup unsweetened almond milk
1TBL almond butter*
1 Banana
1 tsp flaxseed
Sprinkle of cinnamon
Drizzle of honey
Add a scoop of your favorite protein powder if you desire
Blend and enjoy
Lunch
Black Bean and Quinoa Salad
http://www.foodandwine.com/recipes/black-bean-and-quinoa-salad
12 oz. Dried black beans, picked over and rinsed.
Salt
1 cup quinoa, rinsed
3 tablespoons sherry vinegar
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
1 chipotle in adobo, minced
- In a large saucepan, cover the beans with cold water and bring to a boil. Cover and let stand off the heat for 1 hour.
- Drain the beans. Return them to the pot and cover with 3 inches of water. Bring to a boil and simmer over low heat until tender, about 1 hour and 30 minutes; season generously with salt during the last 10 minutes. Drain and let cool.
- Meanwhile, in a medium saucepan, combine the quinoa with 2 cups of water and a pinch of salt and bring to a boil. Cover the saucepan and simmer the quinoa over low heat until the water has been absorbed, about 15 minutes. Spread the quinoa on a plate and let cool.
- In a large bowl, whisk the vinegar, soy sauce, lime juice and chipotle. Add the olive oil in a thin stream, whisking until blended. Add the black beans, quinoa, scallions, red onion, yellow pepper and cilantro. Season with salt, toss to combine and serve.
MAKE AHEAD The black bean–and–quinoa salad can be refrigerated overnight.

My blog is Jeanpatchbymk (http://jeanpatch.blogspot.com, my Facebook page Jeanpatchbymk (www.facebook.com/jeanpatchbymk) and my twitter account is @marketssunshine
2. How has having your own blog helped your business?
I get to show off all my hobbies and fun tips on my blog. Surprisingly, sharing my gluten free recipes has brought me sales in my Etsy shop for my personal program that I started using over 15 years ago to be healthy and get my perfect weight.
I will get custom orders from time to time for my altered journals and books.
3. What advice do you have for aspiring artists and shop owners?
Don't give up on having a successful online business. It takes lots of determination and having a website outside of Etsy or other selling website is the key to success. You have to brand your business and stand out from the crowd. Get out in the community and build a name for yourself and then bring those customer's to your online business.
