Free DIY Project Sunday: Dough Dolls

If you grew up in the 1970's you probably made these in school during art class.  I found this lovely vintage book from 1975 with poems about friendship and along the way they have tucked in a number of wonderful craft projects.  Here is the one Markets of Sunshine Etsy Team is sharing with you today.  How to make dough dolls a tradition you can bake.

Dough art, as ancient as bread making itself, can be a wonderfully relaxing and satisfying hobby.
Friends will appreciate a home-baked gift meant to be kept and treasured, not eaten.

The recipe is a simple one.
Let's get started!
Ingredients List:
4 cups of flour
1 cup of salt
1 3/4 cup water
Mix these 3 ingredients together for 7 or 8 minutes.  Get a melon scoop size ball and make the head.  Line a cookie sheet with wax paper and place the ball on it at the top of the tray.
Make a body out of foil and shape to form a dress or shirt and pants.
Make arms and legs and set in place.

Now roll a piece of dough with a rolling pin in a thin square.  Cut articles of clothing from this and attach onto the doll with a few drops of water.
Add as many different layers of this dough 'clothing' as you wish, making sure to apply a few drops of water between the layers.  If you want to add color use food coloring.
Roll a tiny ball for the nose and force a bit of dough through a garlic press for hair.
Form the eyes and mouth with a straw or wooden dowel.
Add checks with a sharp knife.
Buttons added with the end of a straw.
Brush the parts you wish to be browned with canned milk.
Set the oven on 275 degrees
Bake for 1 to 2 hours
Remove when hardened and let cool.
Varnish the back as well as the front to repel moisture.
You're Done!
